How to travel in Malaysia with Php 10,000 budget (Part 1)

Jalan Petaling (Petaling Street)
August 2015. Finally, I got the chance to save and pay for my own fare and pocket money for our one week escapade last two months ago, Malaysia - Singapore - Cebu. The total transportation fares (airplane, bus and train) I spent was almost Php8,000 and that was for three locations with different destinations. From Davao, we headed to Cebu then Cebu to Malaysia on the next day via AirAsia. AirAsia is cheaper when you want to visit Malaysia and Singapore since it is a Malaysian airline. So far, our flight was fine and safe, trust me. (Tip: always try to avail for promo fares of airlines to save more money)

The 7pm view at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2

Good thing with Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is that they have an express train, the fastest train in Southeast Asia, called KLIA Ekspres which travels from the airport to the KL Sentral (the central station of the country) for 28-30 minutes only compared to their ordinary trains which would take hours. It costs RM 35 or almost Php 400.00.

Malaysia is a multi-racial country: Malays, Tamils and Chinese cover the majority of the population. Since it is considered as one of the tourist destinations in the world, I was really having a hard time to differentiate locals from foreigners. There are also a lot of Filipinos there, mostly are working. And if you meet them by chance, you can ask them for suggestions where to go or what to ride. ;)

Our hotel, My City Hotel, is few meters away from Pasar Seni Station which is VERY convenient since Purple Buses (buses which offer free ride. Yes, you're reading it right, FREE RIDE) park here. At the same time, the hotel is also few steps away to Jalan Petaling, the famous Chinatown in KL where you can buy cheaper items and haggle for prices for souvenirs, t-shirts and even replicas of famous brands like LV, Gucci, Longchamp and the like. The hotel cost is RM 250 or Php 3,000 for three nights, three persons in one room. Though breakfast is not included yet the price is quite reasonable already since it has a very good location, the room looked good and clean and the staffs are so accommodating and kind. I highly suggest this hotel to those backpackers who are looking for cheaper accommodation without risking their security.
Our KL journey started with the streets nearby Jalan Petaling. Jalan word means street. Don't get scared to get lost while wandering because sometimes that's the time you could discover unexpected places and sight-seeings.
We bumped unto this colorful buildings when we got lost looking for the Central Market.

The famous Central Market which has been considered as a heritage site.

The pictures shown above would summarize the places we visited for our first day. And take note, without any transportation cost (thanks to my energetic feet and the free ride from Purple Buses!). Food at KL ranges from Php 100 to 200 for a decent meal at tiangge while Php 200 to 500 when inside malls. They love spicy dishes and rice with different vegetables and spices (what Filipino usually termed as kalo-kalo). To be honest, I can't distinguish the Indian dishes I tried since almost all of them have the same taste, that curry-like spicy taste. Chinese dishes are mostly noodles in different sizes. Fortunate for me my stomach had cooperated and I didn't experience any LBM moments there (haha!). But I secured medicines already especially Salonpas liniment for feet (after the endless walking and strolling). Overall expenses for my first day was just Php 300.

Have you tried visiting these places too? Or you're still planning to visit? Share to me your thoughts by commenting below! Ciao!
