Highland Escapade at Camp Sabros

December 2014. I'd been waiting for that long Christmas holiday break. And at last, just right after the Christmas day, I immediately packed up my things for my new adventure to a place to discover -  CAMP SABROS!

Camp Sabros is owned by Mr. Edwin Sacdalan which is located at Sitio Baras, Kapatagan, Digos City. It has been known for its zipline and cable lift amenities and of course, the over viewing Kapatagan area.

From Davao City, we rode a coaster or a mini bus of Davao Metro Shuttle bound to Digos City at the Abreeza Ayala Mall bus terminal. Fare is Php 100.00. We started our trip the next day. We headed to the old terminal via tricycle for Php 10.00 where the terminal heading to Kapatagan was also located. As per tricycle driver that we had talked to, motorcycle or habal-habal is the common mode of transportation used by commuters since this is always available in the terminal and it's faster also compared to vans which do not have clear trip schedule. They collect Php 100.00 for each person and every motorcycle accommodates three passengers. They do not proceed to travel without having three passengers first unless you are willing to pay for the lacking to make it Php 300.00 per ride.

Just inform the motorcycle driver to drop you at the entrance of Camp Sabros. You can ask for the driver's contact number if you want to be fetched after. Upon arrival at the dropping point, there are still few meters away before reaching the main Camp Sabros entrance. Since motorcycles do not dare to climb up to the main entrance, localities offer a horse back riding service for Php 50.00 per person. One horse can accommodate two passengers. It was my first time for a horse-back riding. There was part of the road that was slippery since it rained the other night and the water got stuck, hence the ride was challenging yet fun. Some people dared to walk and we could have done that if only the weather was fine. It took us 10 minutes upon reaching the main entrance.

There is no entrance fee in the camp. Just proceed to the front desk to inquire. For the amenities like cable lift and zip line, they have variety of choices with prices ranging from Php 150.00 - 550.00. For us, we chose the tandem ride on one way zip line and one way cable lift for Php 200.00 per person. They also have cabins/rooms for those who want to stay overnight. Just make sure to make reservations first atleast a day before with their contact number: 0908-893-3498.

Pro's:
- Over viewing Digos City and sight seeing with Mt. Apo.
- Cold breeze as if you're in Baguio City.
- Place is quiet which is good for those who wants at peace and serenity
- Enjoyable cable lift and zipline ride plus the wonderful view!

Con's:
- So inconvenient if it rains as the road going up to the main entrance is muddy just like what we experienced.
- Little space to tour around the camp as I was expecting that the compound is big just like in Eden Park in Davao City.
- Not-so accommodating staffs as we need to repeat and remind them about our requests. I tried to contact them and successfully got a response for my room reservation one week prior but only to find out one day before the reservation date that they had not able to cater my request. Even on the day of our visit, they didn't immediately accommodated us for the rides to the extent that we still need to call their attentions for how many times.
- Too little amenities. I'm hoping they could improve and/or add more amenities to make the stay of their visitors worthwhile.

Nevertheless, the adventure was memorable and worth it to try. T'was nice exploring Kapatagan as a commuter (since we usually bring a car when travelling). Despite the unexpected experiences, I will still recommend this to everybody who wish to explore more about Digos City! :)

    1. Hi MermaidintheCity! I arrived in Digos City from Davao City during lunch time, the day before we went to Camp Sabros since hindi ako mahilig sa super early trip. Hehe. It's better to start kasi your travel going to Camp Sabros early in the morning like 6am. But if you plan going there on the day of your adventure, I think there are already available buses/vans/coaster by 5am. Hope this helps you. :)
